Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova during a working visit to the Rostov region, dedicated to the celebration of the 350th anniversary of Peter I, visited the main architectural attraction of Starocherkassk – Army Cathedral of Christ’s Resurrection.

Unique in architecture and interior decoration, the most ancient temple of the Don was founded on the initiative of Peter I and with his personal participation. The tsar laid several bricks in the altar of the cathedral.

The historical excursion for the guests was conducted by the senior priest of the parish of St. George the Victorious – archpriest Valery Voloshchuk. Metropolitan Mercury of Rostov and Novocherkassk met the guests at the Rostov Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and told about the large-scale reconstruction carried out in the Don capital. Inside the temple, the original historical appearance has been recreated, which the restorers discovered under layers of plaster.

During the meeting, an active dialogue and discussion of issues took place. The Deputy Minister became interested in the history of Starocherkassk, noted its great historical significance.
