On September 26, the Orthodox Church commemorates the dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (Church of the Resurrection of Christ) in Jerusalem, built by Saint Constantine the Great, Equal-to-the-Apostles, and his mother, Saint Helen, Equal-to-the-Apostles. This church was located on Golgotha, the hill in the Holy Land where the Savior was crucified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this day, the patronal feast is celebrated by all churches dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ, including our own «votive» cathedral. During the Azov Siege, the Cossacks defending the fortress against Turkish troops made a vow: if they survived and held out, they would build a cathedral in honor of the Resurrection of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By tradition, the divine service on the Feast of the Commemoration of the Dedication of the Church of the Resurrection (Voskreseyniye Slovushcheye) is served according to the Paschal rite. The festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the rector of the Resurrection Military Cathedral, Archpriest Valery Voloshchuk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
