Iron Plates
The military ataman Daniel Efremov in 1767 with the blessing of Tikhon of Voronezh, paved the whole church, instead of oak floors burnt in the fire, with iron plates. The inscriptions on the three plates tell us that Tsar Alexander I prayed in the cathedral in 1825, his brother Mikhail in 1817 and the son of Alexander II Nikolay, who visited Starocherkasskaya in 1863.
On October 13, 2015, within the Primacy visit to the Don Metropolis, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia attended St. Don Starocherkassk Monastery and led the evening divine service on the eve of the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos at the Army Cathedral of Christ’s Resurrection. This is the first service of the Patriarch within the walls of the Starocherkassk cathedral. One of the iron plates commemorates this event.
